John Houston is a distinguished studio engineer, session keyboardist, and touring keyboardist/bassist.

 

Since 1995, John has been involved in studio session work, starting in Las Vegas at Son Song Studios.  As a session player, Houston primarily has lent his expertise on piano and Hammond organ to projects for numerous artists, including Christina Aguillera. (My Kind of Christmas).  Houston has been recorded on over 1,000 songs since the 1990s, and can also be heard on radio ads throughout Southern Utah on a daily basis. 

 

In 1998 John founded his own recording studio in Las Vegas, Nevada and later moved his operation to Hurricane Utah. Between studio work, and live performances, John stays busy around 300 days a year. He's made his living exclusively from being a self-employed musician since 2004. As an internationally touring musician he has played in front of over 100,000 people just over the past 10 years.  He has built a resume of impressively rare entertainment credits from this experience.

 

Houston toured as a keyboardist in the Eric Dodge band, and bassist in the Tom Matz band. On tour with Eric Dodge, he has shared the stage with Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars/Footloose,) Lou Diamond Phillips (Longmire/Young Guns), Carrie Underwood, Clint Black, John Michael Montgomery, Pam Tillis, Travis Tritt,  Justin Moore, Lori Young, and many more music greats.

 

A former Southern Utah University vocal major and SUSC music theory student, John was honored to be the Bass section leader of Gladys Knight's Grammy Award winning gospel choir, Saints Unified Voices in Las Vegas. John formed his own group in Southern Utah, John Houston's Gospel Choir, in 2012.  The all-female choir has performed under John's direction for Utah's Governor and with Mortonette Stephens.   

 

John is the inventor of the "Houston Rocket," an electric clavichord that is strummable. His bespoke instrument that produces a huge, unique sound, has gained industry attention, appearing on stages such as Zion Canyon Music Festival.
